DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join Caddo Mounds SHS and The Caddo Nation of Oklahoma in celebration of Caddo history and contemporary culture. \nDecember 2\, 2023 \n9:00 am to 2:00 pm\nCaddo Mounds State Historic Site –  1649 State Hwy. 21 West\, Alto\, TX 75925\n  \nCaddo Culture Day offers entertainment for the whole family! Admission is free\, but donations to the Friends of Caddo Mounds\, Inc. are appreciated. \nWant to volunteer at the event? We’d love to have you! Please submit this form or call 936-858-3221 (Wednesday-Sunday). \n\n\nScheduled Activities:\n\n10:30\, Caddo Grass House build team talking about their experiences building the new grass house.\n11:30\, Traditional Cooking demonstration with Chase Kahwinhut Earles.\n2:00\, Caddo Basketry Revival student presentation.\nCaddo Dances (pending)\n\nConfirmed Caddo Artists and Community Partners:\n\nTracy Burrows\, NDN Regalia\nKacey Roach\, True Chiefs\nYonavea Hawkins\, Beadwork Artist\nDiana Parton Smith\, Texas Native Health and Texas Caddo Initiatives\n\nCommunity Partners Information and Activities:\n\nNacogdoches Public Library\nStone Fort Museum\nPineywoods Beekeepers\nEast Texas Plant Materials Center\nFriends of Caddo Mounds\nEndeavor Industrial\nDr. Leslie Bush\, Archeobotany\nTexas Forest Service\n\n\nFood:\nBe Blessed Tacos will be selling lunch at the event. We are hopeful that the Alabama-Coushatta Pow Wow Club will join us as well to sell Indian Tacos. Be Blessed will have vegetarian\, gluten free\, and dairy free food options. The Friends of Caddo Mounds will provide free lunch for all volunteers!\n\n\nCameras are permitted and lawn chairs and/or blankets are encouraged.\n\n*Event Etiquette.\nNever touch a Native American dancer’s regalia. If you feel the need to touch\, always ask permission\, and be gentle and considerate. Respect the personal space of dancers as you should for anyone else. You’ll find that most dancers are friendly and will answer your questions about their regalia.\n\nAmple parking is provided.\n\nCaddo Mounds SHS is located at 1649 State Hwy. 21 West\, Alto\, TX 75925: 6 miles west of Alto\, and approximately 30 minutes from Lufkin\, Nacogdoches\, Jacksonville\, and Crockett\, Texas.
